Written by Ryan Wilford It was around the third week in October, 2018, I was thinking about the camping trips my family and I had taken over the summer. These Continue Reading →

Instagram post 2184374730713223100_484954504 I keep finding new plants at our new house, which always brings the term #secretgarden to mind. Today, on the cusp of winter and just an hour before a significant snow storm blankets our little patch of Maine with snow. I tucked the #garlic bed in under some mulch and found places to tuck #treeonion bulbs into gardens here and there. One spot was at the base of a few birch trees, I went to tuck them in and found these wee hens and chicks, one last surprise before our land gets covered with snow, possibly for the winter at that rate with are going with these chilly temps.
Instagram post 2141668671897118314_484954504 Woohoo! #productivenaptime today, paid bills, prepared with trip to town office to register vehicles complete with urine sample and ready to hand over my first born child, #peeledtomatoes, made a knotweed #tincture and a peach #elixir. The peach tree keeps on giving! Good for handling hot weather better and bee stings, two of my outdoor foes.

Instagram post 2104534599873908190_484954504 I had no idea how lovely #Beebalm smelled until I went out to cut some today from our huge patch of it. I wish I could leave the pretty flowers to dry without covering them, but this repurposed #grandyoats bag isnt too bad and will do a great job of catching the precious petals as they dry. This plant will help us through the cold and flu season. #beettheratrace #plantmedicine #stockingupforwinter
Instagram post 2098346823478609275_484954504 Taming the impenetrable berry block! The first step is to stake out the rows, then we are going to mow a path between them, after harvest we will thin the rows down to 2 feet wide. It’s hard work, but these kids work for berries. It’s a good thing that we will have millions of these very soon. #beettheratrace #berrypatch #eatwhatyougrow #kidsgardening
Instagram post 2096177709989477990_484954504 This evening’s task of thinning the fuzzy peaches off of the peach tree and feeding them to the chickens. #littlehelpers #growwhatyoueat we just learned that we needed to thin them! Just ordered a mower deck for the quad bike that will tame our field, then we can assess the apple trees and learn how to care for those too. #beettheratrace follow our journey at beettheratrace.com
